At Old Craig Farm House we have installed an 199KW HDG boiler that is capable of burning any type of biomass but we have set it up to burn wood chip. This is a carbon neutral sustainable fuel sourced from our own timber on the farm which is replanted as soon as any trees are cut down. It also provides jobs in the forestry industry in Scotland which is an important rural employer.
The biomass boiler has been set up as a mini district heating scheme which provides heating and hot water to the Country House and to the owners accommodation and also provides grain drying capabilities during harvest time. Biomass fuel is far less expensive to buy than fossil alternatives such as kerosene oil which allows us to heat the Country House more effectively during the colder winter months. Eco-conscious guests can therefore rest assured that they are minimising their carbon footprint during their holiday in Aberdeenshire.
